Points are accumulated in Championship Stakes Only. In the case of a tie, there are two tie breakers:

• The National Champion in a particular class becomes the winner in case of a tie.
• If there is no National Champion involved, the tie is broken by the number of dogs defeated

If there is still a tie, more than one awared will be presented. This system was adopted for the 1987-1988 season. In 1991, the award year was changed to the calendar year from the NGSPA year (beginning at the Nationals and ending with the last Championship event prior to the Nationals.)
